Stayed with another couple. Wanted somewhere close to Perth so we could ride our motorbikes there. This hotel is truly a treat! Met by Rod the Manager for a leisurely checkin and shown to our beautiful rooms. Every detail is looked after here and the place is full of history. We had a lovely dinner and drinks in the Temperance Bar. Maybe a little coaching on a few cocktails would be gears but the girls did very well. Slept really well and served coffee by Phyllis at the Dome who was super friendly. Would definitely recommend this gem.
Loved this weekend away. We haven’t been to Northam in many years. Chose to come to Northam only because we saw Farmers Home Hotel and was searching for 2hr getaways from Perth. Plus Toodyay was a short stop to visit. The hotel was what attracted us to Northam and we have really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful hotel, it’s not cheap but you will appreciate the quality and extras. Great service, way better than what you will experience in Perth at moment, based on personal experience. We had the cottage room which is the cheapest room but it was perfect for us. Free Movies on demand, amazing balcony to enjoy, great food and more. Dome right downstairs included being open for dinner and it’s licensed which was a surprise. We would def stay here again when we visit next. The quality of the renovation is impressive. Looking forward to going to Katanning to stay at their other hotel. …
This transformation is remarkable. A boutique hotel with only 16 rooms, your exclusivity is guaranteed. Let me reflect on some positives, having read some negatives about Northam in other reviews. Northam is an amazing springboard to the region. This hotel sits right on the Avon River. Our first morning was spent strolling along for a good couple of kilometres. We spent time on a blanket gazing at the sky, taking in the river fountains. This is heaven, right there, and it seems that so few know it exists! Take, for example, the volume of BBQs along the river on both sides! We had dinner and breakfast, taking in the views and sunsets and fresh air! Unfortunately, the hotel has not captured this, so you do need to bring a proper esky if you want to store food. The fridge in the room is for snacks and maybe one bottle of wine. As this won't change, this is something to be aware of. The location is amazing, but a fridge you do not have. They do offer storage of food in the Dome cafe, but it took 15 minutes to retrieve it following a full scale security screen! It's a bit of a shame, as we love to support local butchers (and, we did in York...best sausages, ever!) Northam is an underrated town. The river is wonderful and Northam is just 25 minutes to York or Toodjay. Personally, I love to stay near nature, and this property ticked all those boxes, with a touch of luxury. The sheets and bedding are stunning, the bathroom add ons delightful. I particularly liked the books you can 'nick' from the guest box. We had a couple of issues with our room and Rod, the GM, asserted himself and had them sorted. My advice is to ensure you give the property the chance to address your issues, as they are quite new and yet to experience international guests. This will help build an icon in the region. As a traveller, here are a few things you might like to know in advance. There is an amazing river at your doorstep. Bring walking gear. We were disappointed the trail is not marked or maintained (footbridges) but still loved the walk in both directions. Northam Shire might take note and improve this. You are literally half an hour from another two amazing towns. My preference is to stay on the river here and drive. There is not a whole heap in town, but there is enough if you love nature, river and walking. I am not a fan of Dome but many are. This is your cafe below, with stunning views to the river. It was packed, so I am not the best critic! I'd prefer a restaurant, but was happy to eat elsewhere during the day and snack at night. Gluten free is not particularly catered for, for those like me, needing a special diet. The cultural centre in town is a must. It's on the river - learn and connect to Country. Well done to all involved. This is a short walk from the hotel. There is a lovely little bar in the hotel, although it lacked somewhat in atmosphere. A guitarist on Friday night would have drawn people in. We struggled to find a comfortable place to sit but met some mutual friends and did find our groove by the second night. Staff in the bar were second to none, with some great local tales we all enjoyed. Check in is pretty much only from 2pm. We got there around 1.30 and it was a bit of an exercise to get in. Sharing this just so you know, the front desk is not manned all the time. The price is up there, but in perspective, you are in a pretty exclusive place given the number of rooms. I think there is a bit more that can be done, such as adding VIP extras such as wine, a drink at the bar and so on. There is not a lot of engagement which can be a bit off putting for the international traveller, but kind of nice for someone wanting a true getaway. There are no amenities in your room (kettle, toaster), but there is a little area to make a cup of tea or coffee, grab extra towels or pillows, and...ah, a fridge! We brought my gluten free bread and toasted it on the BBQs across the way with river views, so we were happy! But hubby had to get dressed to go make the tea. Just something to share if you are expecting something else. We had the room with a balcony to the river. Lovely views and would recommend this room (104) with an almost private staircase. There is noise from the air con on the roof in front of it but we shifted the chairs up the other end and it was fine. If you are not from WA, this is going to be a mixture of love and not love. If you are from WA, you may also have mixed feelings or just love love love. It is about time someone gave the regions some luxury in an incredible location. And, if you are like us, who love being near water and nature, this is the 100% perfect location. Thumbs up from us. The fridge situation can be solved with an esky (true Aussie style). The no toaster or kettle can be solved. you won't get a bottle of wine on arrival or a muso in the bar. But, you will have the key to the most incredible region that is sitting, quietly waiting to be explored. All within half an hour, tops! Trawl the top 10 things to do in Northam, York and Toodjay, and you have four days of amazement, with a stunning base to go home to. (There is a pub in Spencer..........google it.)…
Make sure you are not being allocated room 105 ! This room has no windows ! It has a en-suite bathroom with a tiny window over the toilet looking at a tin roof . It is a room for the disabled . Which begs the question why do the disabled have the worst room in the Hotel . The room has opaque glass panel’s and door that divides the room and en-suite .so when you lay on the bed all you see is the bathroom and toilet . The only source of natural light comes from a sky light . I am not disabled but would be saddened by my room if I was . On the booking .com web site there are 8 beautiful rooms photographed, all with windows of some description at the same price point of 298.Aus dollars . The hotel was very empty as to be expected mid week. Unfortunately on arrival I had beginning of a migraine so I didn’t have the energy to dispute the room. Later we went to the Bar for a drink ,once again disappointment . I ordered a caprioska ,which should be full of muddled lime and mint . I watched the bartender put one skinny wedge of lime and Two mint leaves and muddle . Never tasted anything quite like it and when I said it should be full of limes and mint I had a extra lime wedge dropped in. The drink was left on the bar and we proceeded to dinner at The Dome .our choices for dinner were limited as it was 8 at night and all other restaurants closed early . The Dome is a huge cafeteria like ,self serve restaurant with tasteless cafeteria quality re heated food . We were doing a trial run for a destination for big birthday celebration for a big group of friends . Sad to say we won’t be selecting Farmers Stay . …
We had a wonderful overnight stay at the beautifully restored Farmers’ Home hotel. Greeted by Rod on arrival who happily told us about the renovation process and led us to our room. The room was perfect. Lovely and clean nice modern fixtures including the tiniest fridge that was perfect for our needs. Highlight was the toilet separate to the bathroom not often seen in a hotel but a necessity! Room comes equipped with USB wall charging points fancy lighting system and giant tv. The bed was huge and like a warm hug! Extra towels and hot water are available in a little shared pantry area which is a great idea to reduce clean up! We enjoyed a few drinks in the bar which has an excellent selection including wines on tap! Great selection of WA wines something for all tastes. This was the perfect place to stay and well located for the hot air ballooning. …
