WE spent 4 days mid-week at Stillwater State Park and loved it. Good variety of sites for all types of camping. The bathroom facilities were clean and well appointed. The lake is gorgeous and relatively quiet (perhaps busier on weekends). The staff was very gracious. Owls head lookout not to be missed. We will return ! And if you arrive by route 2 and 232, don't miss the restaurant at 3 ponds.... Delicious!.

Beach area small but nice. Boat launch and mooring available. Pretty stream near beach. Three bath houses. The one in center has more private shower rooms and a lower price than third bath house. Average cleanliness for VT campground.

Second year staying at Stillwater State Park. It is a State park, so don't expect frills, electric or water hookups. Our site is never perfect and usually contains a giant boulder or tree - and the kids love it. We go every year for the Outdoor Family Weekend and can't say enough about it. Put on by VT Extension, Fish & Wildlife and Parks & Rec it is a weekend of classes and fun done including things like natural medicines, shot gun skills, kayaking, compass navigation, archery etc. The Staff at the park were super, and with it being the first weekend of June the lake was serene and empty. We will be doing Outdoor Family Weekend again next year at Stillwater for sure.

The park is in a beautiful area, but the lake (Lake Groton) is 95% private, with all the corresponding noise and hoopla that consists of. Motorboats, jet skis, partiers - not what I had in mind when going camping. It was better during weekdays, but not that much - I went to see natural beauty, not private lake houses. Surprisingly, there were nesting loons on the lake. How on earth they manage with all the boat traffic is beyond me. Campsites range from nice (mostly the lean-to waterfront sites, which must be reserved many months ahead of time) to totally crappy, with many sites unlevel and small. Some are relatively private, some not at all. Be sure to check with the park before reserving or you may be surprised like we were. Our site's ground was very gritty and that made the tent really nasty inside. Wish it were made of hard sand, pine needles or grass instead. The firewood sold by the campground office was a total rip-off; it never burned during our entire stay, no matter how many firestarters we used. They should be ashamed of themselves by stealing from their customers that way. The best part of our camp experience was the relative closeness of some of Vermont's famous ponds. Osmore Pond was stunning, Kettle Pond also so, and what I saw of the pond right at the bottom of the lake was also beautiful. These ponds require some portage to get your kayak/canoe to the water, though.
