Talbot is a very small town, with few facilities for travelers. It has some great museums to visit and attractive gold rush buildings to appreciate. The Hotel offers meals (dinners on 7 days and lunches on 5) and the Motel has six rooms at very good prices. At first we thought there was a casual attitude to things and were a bit disappointed, but the hotel/motel folk were friendly and anxious to please. We asked about vegetarian items on the pub meals and they added one just for us. Our vegetable pasta was inexpensive and of large proportions. Likewise our room came with continental breakfast in our room, microwave, fridge, with bottled water. Value for money is very good.
Would recommend a few beers and a meal in this great country pub. The owner and staff are very welcoming, nothings too much trouble. The beer garden was lovely sunny and comfortable and best of all our dog was welcome. Can’t wait to go back
On my Melbourne Cup mystery weekend, we caught the 4pm Maryborough train from Southern Cross station and alighted at Talbot, central Victoria. There was even a mini-bus there that dropped us right at the door to the hotel. The accommodations were simple, but comfy and the evening meals were Country....good and hearty. A lovely sleep after a very pleasant walk around town on this warm late October evening. A light breakfast included had us out the front at 7am waiting for the return of the mini-bus to take us to the station. An excellent start to our long weekend.
