WHAT IT IS: a very small, VERY REMOTE bungalow hut hotel on an empty beach on an empty island, with limited plumbing and electricity, but maximum relaxation and isolation. WHAT IT ISN'T: loud, touristy, easy to get to or luxurious. If you're already researching places to stay on Ko Chang Ranong, then you already know how remote and peaceful the island is. And hopefully that's what you're looking for, because Sunset Bungalows is it. Getting to the island is an easy 20 min boat ride from Ranong, with several trips happening a day. Due to our plans changing last minute (as they do in Thailand) we arrived on the island a day late, so our arrival transportation was not there. The hotel IS walkable, but only if you have backpacks. You wouldn't be able to roll a suitcase the whole way. But it's about a 40-45 min walk with bags. On roads, but through the jungle. And chances are, it's hot out. Long story short: arrange your arrival. There are no cars on the island, and only a handful of motorbikes, so there won't be taxis or anyone waiting around to give tourists rides. You can try hitching, walking, or again - pre arrange your arrival. Sunset Bungalow will send a nice golf cart to come get you and your luggage. Take advantage (unlike us)! The hotel is basically the only one on the beach, and it's by far the biggest beach on the island, with the best sunsets (hence the name). There are some other hotels listed on Google maps, but walking past them, they all seem abandoned or sketchy or both. Sunset Bungalow is far and away the best structure, the best location, and the best staff. The women that run the place are really what make it incredible. What it lacks in amenities, they make up for with kindness and effort and grace. The rooms range from rustic to RUSTIC, with tee pee tents even being offered. We splurged and reserved Room 1, which was still super basic, but a wooden structure RIGHT on the beach, and in our opinion the best location of all the bungalows. You will have spiders and roaches in your hut. You will hear critters on the roof. There will be mosquitos. There might be sand fleas. It's a hut on a beach on a remote island in Thailand. It's what you came here for! At least, that's what the handful of random Germans who are also staying there are looking for. Right? The food served at Sunset is amazing. Didn't have a bad dish the entire time. And try the Burmese dishes, as the kitchen staff is (I think) Burmese. It's not open 24-7, but the kitchen makes 3 meals a day and it's all excellent. Full menu to order from. And always cold beer. They might not have electricity, but they'll have cold beer. Like in any Thai place, you can endear yourself to the staff by A) being kind and smiling and attempting any Thai you can, and B) ordering Thai (or Burmese) dishes. They will have some "Western" options for you, but they're not going to be good, and the kitchen isn't going to take pride (or joy) in making it. So ask them their favorites, their recommendations... and ENJOY! It's very, very basic accommodations. But that's what you get on this island. And honestly, the sunsets and the island and the people and the food make the hard bed and wet bathroom worth it. The hotel also offers bicycles to ride around the island on (recommend) and probably some other activity options. They can also arrange all travel to subsequent islands, like Ko Phayam (recommended) or back to Ranong. Pro tip: spend the night in Ranong before coming out to the islands. It's a cool town, you can eat and sleep for cheap, and you can stock up on island supplies and cash before going to the island. THERE ARE NO ATMs ON THE ISLAND AND EVERYTHING IS CASH ONLY. THERE ARE NO STORES EITHER. So buy everything you would want/need from 7-eleven. Also, you would think you could just show up on such a remote island and be able to find a room. I highly recommend booking in advance, even if it's just a day or two. I saw a few travelers show up on foot hoping to get a room and getting turned away and looking BUMMED. Stay a few nights, brave the bug bites and the remoteness and feel almost like you're camping on the most beautiful island ever, and then go to some 4 star place in another part of Thailand. You won't find that here. Thankfully. It's not 5 star luxury, but it's 5 star service, and a 5 star experience for those of you who want to enjoy a beautiful, natural, peaceful side of Thailand. Just keep it a secret!…
I stay real near beach, quiet place beautiful beach resterent is vevy good food a lot of menu in here every food is delicious food.More activity in here, I very love this bungalow ,staff very perfect service.
We had a yum drip coffee and deliciois curries here. Although we didn’t book a bungalow here, we did spend most of our time in front of Sunset Bar...lounging, sipping Chang, sipping coffee, eating and just being:) This spot has an addictive charm. Bravo to the chefs and service staff! ...I’m going to relax a little longer here ...and let the island rock me to sleep..
After searching awhile for the place to isolate myself out of the city. I found this Island which has similar name with tourist spot but it's cimpletely different. Here is Koh Chang in Ranong (Southern of Thailland). Being here us like meditation without temple. No tv and limited power source as electric will available only 4 hours a day (6 - 10 pm). It doesn's have a lit of activity and night life. So what to do in Daily? Wake up With The Sound of the sea then enjoy the peaceful morning without any crowded or pollution. Read some pages of favorite book then having homemade yogurt which I eecommended. A day pass by without rushing. Reading book then swim and sunbath then swim and reading. What a peaceful life. Just warning if you wish lavish life, here is not your.
